“In the Autumn of the Unfortunates” released in paperback

Barking Rain Press, a non-profit publisher of general and genre fiction in print and e-formats, announced the paperback and eBook release of the historical horror novel IN THE AUTUMN OF THE UNFORTUNATES.

Experience the tale of Jack the Ripper through the eyes of crime-scene artist Walter Sickert. Though history named him as a later-day suspect, Sickert was not involved in the crimes at the time.
Fifteen years after the original murders, Sickert’s appren- tice, Robert Wood, is accused of murdering a prostitute in Camden Town and comes to Sickert for help. Believ- ing Wood to be innocent, Sickert agrees to help him and investigates the murder, finding an uncanny similarity to the Ripper’s crimes years before. Soon he must face the horrible truth: Jack the Ripper may have returned—or, all the more likely—has never left.
To save his friend, Sickert must uncover the true villain behind the original killings, following an unsolved case more than a decade cold.
His search will lead him down an ever-twisting path toward a truth far more terrible than anyone could ever suspect—or believe!

Ask for IN THE AUTUMN OF THE UNFORTUNATES at your favorite bookstore, or buy it online at the Barking Rain Press website, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Powells, and many other online booksellers. It is also available in most eBook formats through Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, FictionWise, the iBookstore, Kobo, Overdrive, the Sony Reader Store, Barking Rain Press and many other outlets worldwide. New Year Resolution, and Catching-up with several Old Years Past

It has been a while, but I decided I was going to try to keep this blog consistent starting with this year. You could consider it a New Year's resolution, I suppose. But while I am not sure I will be updating this every day, I do hope to update it when I have any news or info of any kind that is relevant to my writing or my career in any way.
So, here we go. Since you haven't been with me (or I haven't been with you for awhile) I'll give you a brief run down of what I have been doing.
In 2006, the Xbox 360 video game "Prey" which I helped create was released.
From there I started to dive back into the publishing world to get my own writing back on track.
My second novel, "In the Autumn of the Unfortunates" became serialized on Virtual Tales website, and is now on its way to being released in print.
My short story collection, "Building a Better Monster" was released by Stone Garden Publishing last year, and has been doing quite well.
In November, the third edition of my first novel, "The Hunting Sorrow" was released by Double Dragon Publishing---this also makes it the third publisher, as well. This one has been revised and updated, something I had been wanting to accomplish for a while now, as that it was originally written when I was 18, and there were a number of mistakes within it that have haunted me over the years---particularly as I grew older. Now at last I can say that we have what I believe is the definitive edition.
So, last but not least, I am pleased to announce that January 10th is going to see the release of my third novel, "To Suffer a Witch," which is the first in a series, The Blackthorne Chronicles, which are being published by Stone Garden Publishing.
Here is a link to the publishers web page to find out more about it:

I'll have more on all this soon, but suffice it to say, now that I found this blog again, and recalled the pass word at last, I thought I'd start with just a brief overview and a plug for the most recent news I have. Stay tuned. There is more yet to come....

Projects and Co-Projects

Here I am again. Not quite as long in between this time.
The viewing of my story "After The Fall" at Horrorfind.com seems to be going well, and my current review is up at feoamante.com. This time I take a look at "Accidents Waiting To Happen" by Simon Wood, who is also a Bay Area writer. Its a thriller---pretty good. Take a look at the review if you have an interest.
Things are going fairly well with "Angel of Darkness..." Up to 35,000 words.
Completed several short stories for various anthologies as well. Keeping my fingers crossed on those.
Also, there has been some interest in my novel, "Ghosts In The Veins" expressed, so I'm preparing that as we speak.
Working also on a collaboration with Gary Greenwood, author of "The King Never Dies" and "The Dreaming Pool". No title for the project yet, nor any idea how long it will be, but it seems we are at last making progress, and that is good. I'm happy about that.

Well, that's pretty much it for now.
Bay Area Horror Fans, come to Spookycon in January! Check out their website at Spookycon.com, to find out more.

Novel excerpt and published story

Well look. It has been about a month since I last gave any info or up dates about my doings. Been busy preparing and finalizing some things. But I am happy to announce that "After The Fall" is officially published at Horrorfind.com, so please check it out when you get a chance. It should be up for the next month, or so. I will also be putting a link to it on my web site.
My other news for today is that I have signed up for the November Novel Writing Month contest. Basically the contestants enter this thing, and try to be among the first to get to 50,000 words in the month of November. I am already well under way with my new novel, "Angel Of Darkness, Angel Of Light" which explores further the concepts revealed in my short "After The Fall." If anyone would like to take a look at the excerpt, here is the link:

Well, that is pretty much it for this time.
See you soon!

Story acceptance, and Bay Area connections

It's almost the end of the month, and I'm preparing several projects for various publishers, agents, anthologies, etc. Mostly much of the same going on as how the month started, but many promising things in the future.
For one, just got an acceptance from Horrorfind.com that they will be publishing my story "After The Fall" coming up shortly here, and it will run for 4 months after that. Horrorfind is a great site. You should check it out when you get a chance. Particularly if you like horror!....
Last weekend I went to the Sonoma County Book Faire. Not a whole lot going on, but I got to connect again with friends from Borderlands Books in San Francisco---Alan Beatts, Jude Feldeman, and Carrie, who have been staples at the last number of conventions. It was nice to see them again, at least. The next con that I will be attending will be Spookycon in San Francisco at the beginning of next year. Looks like it should be a pretty good one. Hope it goes well for those putting it on. It will surely be a harken for more things to come our way in the Bay Area---which will be nice.
Well, that's it for now. I have writing to do.
There should be updates coming to my site before too long, so keep checking back.

Post Con Season--submit, submit, submit

Have just finished with my convention attendances for the summer--and the year---and have several projects on the burner now. The last two cons were Horrorfind 2002, and Conjose in San Jose just this past weekend. It has been a very busy couple of weeks.
In addition to the video game I am still writing, I am now working on the expanded version of "Primeval Fear" (by a publisher's request), editing my novel, "The Eye Of Atum" about the release of an ancient race imprisoned in Egypt to prepare it for submission, and working out some new ideas for my long suffering Lycanthropy novel "A Heart As Dark, or the Vertical March." (My were-wolf isn't exactly a were-wolf. It's actually something that I fear myself. Those that know me well should be able to figure out what that is.) Still waiting to hear back on my novel, "Our Lives Are But Shadow" which is my take on the angel myths, and have just sent out "To Suffer A Witch" to an agent that looks promising. Also, I have got some interest in another novel, "A Pure State," which is about the systematic destruction of culture and art in Afghanistan. My review of Diana Barron's "Phantom Feast" should be up at Feo's site soon, and I have to work on my next review. So, I am very, very busy. Rest. What's that?
